In this day and age, it can be easy for us as marketers, offering our clients digital marketing and SEO services, to forget about the traditional print media.
Which is why we need to remind some marketing professionals, that by adopting a truly multi-media approach can pay dividends and that they should not neglect the traditional when it comes to the services they offer their clients.
It is true that some younger marketing personnel may not be as familiar with the beneficial effects of traditional printed marketing, so here we set out its’ case.
PEOPLE LIKE WHAT THEY CAN TOUCH
Whereas internet marketing is transient and can be switched off in an instant, a physical marketing campaign is different.
It is a leaflet that comes through the door and is pinned to the fridge. It is in a glossy brochure which feels silky as it is being thumbed through. It is in a magazine which will sit on our coffee table for many weeks on end.
It has been proven that customers remember a brand better which has been on a printed material, rather than on a website only. Of course, using both is the best approach.
PEOPLE LIKE FREEBIES
If people like things they can touch, then they especially like being given things for free.
Corporate gifts such as mugs and pens may seem gimmicky – but everyone uses them! This means, your client’s name and brand being on display in the workplace or peoples’ homes for months or even years. And this is a result all round.
Better still, printable gifts have expanded to include just about everything you can think about – umbrellas, branded technology, consumables (ie food and drink). These can be given as gifts and have a surprisingly long shelf life in many cases.
It may even be in printable marketing merchandise – this has even bigger untapped potential for many clients. Simply transforming clients and staff into walking billboards for their brand or service is easy and all you have to do is offer people something to wear.
PEOPLE LIKE OCCASIONS
Let’s not forget the importance of the event, when it comes to branding.
Now of course, as digital marketers, we are aware of branding when it comes to web and social media – but let’s not forget about the physical side of things too.
Encouraging your clients to have an open event or day, a promotion in their shop or premises means printable promotions.
And with a bit of creative thinking, these can be tailored to many different occasions.
As a new generation of marketers embraces social media and the web, it is important not to throw the baby out with the bath water and forget the tactics which worked in the past.
The main point when it comes to marketing, is to remember to tie in the digital with the real life, tangible stuff that people can feel, touch and hold in their hands.
